In the post-strike world, the CW network will continue one of its habits – Canadian dramas on Wednesdays.
On Jan. 17, the mini-network will start the seasons for two of them, one new (“Wild Cards,” shown here) and the other returning after two summertime runs (“Family Law”).
During the strikes, there was extra attention to international shows, including “Transplant” on NBC and “Ghosts UK” on CBS. But such shows have always been important to CW – originally just during summers but now, with new owners at the network, year-round.
This fall, the Wednesday slots went to two Canadian shows – the character drama “Sullivan’s Crossing” at 8 p.m. and the light mystery “The Spencer Sisters” at 9. They’ll be bumped by a Republican debate on Dec. 6 and then have their season finales on Dec. 13. Five weeks later, the new Wednesday line-up will have:
— “Wild Cards” at 8 p.m. A demoted detective (Giacomo Gianniotti) links with a scam artist (Vanessa Morgan) to solve crimes. Jason Priestley, the long-ago “Beverly Hills 90210” star, plays her father, a master con man.
— “Family Law” at 9. This is the third season for the light drama, which previously ran in summers. It began with a drunken lawyer (Jewel Staite) on the brink of being disbarred. The only firm that would give her a chance (warily) was run by her father and included her two half-siblings.
