1) “The Simpsons” season-opener, 8 p.m., Fox. At a time when most scripted shows were detoured by strikes, this is an exception: Animated shows are done far in advance; starting tonight, Fox has four new ones on Sundays. It’s the 35th season for “The Simpsons,” which seems as sharp as ever. Homer gets a wisp of crossing-guard glory (shown here); then, of course, he takes it to excess.
2) “Bob’s Burgers,” 9 p.m., Fox. Here’s another cartoon with a clever opener. As the kids rebel against chores, the whole thing morphs into a cowboy tale; with multiple storytellers, people soon bounce wildly between heroes and villains. The other animated shows are merely OK: In “Krapopolis” (8:30), Tyrannis has a girlfriend from the swamps;“Family Guy” (9:30) has a weird twist for Meg.
3) “Jungle Cruise” (2021), 8-10:30 p.m., ABC. For months, ABC has said it would have “Wonderful World of Disney” on Sundays, without being specific. Now we have details: Things start with this entertaining adventure; Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson captains a broken-down ship, with Emily Blunt as his demanding client. The stylishly filmed “Cruella” is next Sunday, with “Encanto” a week later.
4) “Unforgotten,” 9 p.m., PBS. A week from the season-finale, personal lives have hit bottom for both Sunny and Jess. They throw their energy into their probe, which entangles the top and bottom of British society. It’s a great episode, as is “Professor T” at 8, with the prof going beyond conventional evidence. At 10, “Van de Valk” starts a creepy two-parter, centering on people who believe in the occult.
5) “The Ringleader: The Bling Ring,” 9-10:35 p.m., HBO. For 10 months, young burglars kept hitting homes of the rich and famous. They stole from Paris Hilton (often), Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Megan Fox and more; they grabbed clothes and jewels estimated at $3 million. This documentary views the alleged leader, Rachel Lee. Also today: new episodes of “Billions” (8 p.m., Showtime) and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” (9 p.m., AMC).
