ABC has finally answered a key question: What will fill that gaping hole on Sundays?
In its makeshift, strike-time schedule, the network simply listed “Wonderful World of Disney” movies for 8-11 p.m. Sundays, starting Oct. 1. Still, it never said which movies and when.
Now we know; the early line-up has three films from 2021, a vintage year for Disney:
— Oct. 1: “Jungle Cruise.” It’s an amiable movie that has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the owner of a tattered safari boat; Emily Blunt is his opposite, organized and diligent and reluctant to hire him Viewers won’t be surprised if they end up liking each other.
— Oct. 8: “Cruella.” Emma Stone (shown here) plays a young version of the “101 Dalmations” villain, with Emma Thompson as the evil baroness. Craig Gillespie – who has drawn raves for “I, Tonya” and the current “Dumb Money” – directed it, giving it a lush look.
— Oct. 15: “Encanto.” This won the Academy Award for best animated series. That will be part of a night, hosted by Kelly Ripa, that begins the studio’s 100th-birthday celebration. The night also includes the debut of an animated short, “Once Upon a Studio.”
