As soon as this TV season ends, Fox will start stuffing its line-up with food.
In a quick stretch (May 22-24, plus May 29), it will launch five summer shows – three centering on food. The line-up includes four returnimg shows – “MasterChef,” “Crime Scene Kitchen,” “Beat Shazam” and “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” – plus the new “Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars.”
That last one is sort of a “Shark Tank”/”Apprentice” blend: Contestants are entrepreneurs with food-related businesses. Ramsay (shown here) – also the producer and host of “MasterChef” and more – will give them challenges, then invest $250,000 in one of their businesses.
Most Fox shows end their seasons next month. That ranges from May 4 for the comedies “Animal Control” and “Call Me Kat” to May 21 for “The Simpsons,” “The Great North” and “Bob’s Burgers.”
The next day, the new shows arrive; the summer includes:
— MONDAYS: “Crime Scene Kitchen” is hosted by Joel McHale, the network’s “Animal Control” star. Contestants try to guess and re-create what was recently made in a kitchen. That has a two-hour opener May 22, then moves to 9 p.m. The 8 p.m. slot is unspecified, except for a “MasterChef” rerun May 29.
— TUESDAYS: Two music-related shows start May 23. “Beat Shazam” is a name-that-tune type, hosted by Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne. “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” is hosted by Niecy Nash.
— WEDNESDAYS: “MasterChef” – in its 13th season, featuring at-home chefs – is at 8 p.m. That’s followed by the “Food Stars” debut at 9.
Other days are unspecified. In summers, Fox tends to continue wrestling on Fridays and have baseball on Saturdays. It continues its cartoons on Sundays; most are reruns, but there are enough new “Housebroken” episodes to last all summer, if needed.
