1) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. As a triple threat (writer-producer-star), Quinta Brunson (shown here) is sweeping up the awards. Last fall, she won an Emmy for her “Abbott Elementary” pilot script; in January, she won Golden Globes for best comedy series and best comedy actress. Now Brunson, 33, is scheduled for her first time hosting “SNL”; Lil Yachty is the music guest.
2) Basketball, 6:09 and about 8:49 p.m. ET. CBS. The college basketball tournament has been riddled with upsets. The 12 top-ranked teams – seeded No. 1, 2 or 3 in their quadrants – have all been ousted. A couple of 5th-seeds remain. In the first game, San Diego State faces Florida Atlantic (seeded No. 9); in the second, Miami faces Connecticut (No. 4).
3) More sports. It’s baseball’s opening weekend. Fox has two games (varying by region) at 4:05 p.m. ET., with Phillies-Rangers or Giants-Yankees; then Fox Sports 1 has the Guardians and Mariners, at 9:40. Also, there’s soccer (7:30 p.m., Fox) and XFL football (3 p.m., ESPN2 and 6 p.m., ESPN).
4) “The Ten Commandments,” 7-11:44 p.m., ABC. In its day, this was considered masterful; ir won an Academy Award for its special effects and was nominated for six more, including best picture. By modern standards, this film (with Charlton Heston as Moses) often feels slow and stiff, but it’s popular each Easter season. It will also be on UpTV., at 10 a.m.ET Sunday and 3 p.m. next Saturday.
5) “The Brothers Warner” (2008), 8 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies. On Tuesday, Warner Brothers will turn 100; TCM is turning that into a monthlong celebration. This is one of the documentaries it will include, alongside lots of Warner films. Other worthy movies include “True Grit” (2010) and “No Time to Die” (2021), at 8 and 9:55 p.m. on MGM+ and “The Lord of the Rings” (2001) at 4 p.m. on the Paramount Network, with this sequels at 8 and midnight.
