1) Football, 1 p.m. ET, Fox. The college season kicks off with a fairly good match-up. Skipping the usual non-conference openers, the Big Ten season begins with Nebraska (shown here) at Illinois. Elsewhere, ESPN has Hawaii at UCLA, at 3:30 p.m. ET and the CBS Sports Network has two games. It’s Fresno State at Connecticut at 2 p.m. and Southern Utah at San Jose State at 10.
2) “Back to the Future” trilogy, all day, CMT. The 1980s brought a fresh generation of films – slick, fun and youth-oriented, yet done with great skill and intelligence. These three are prime examples; they’re at noon (1985), 2:30 (1989) and 5 p.m. (1990), repeating at 7:30 and 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. More ‘80s: AMC has “Revenge of the Nerds”(1984) at 6 p.m., “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982) at 8 and “Sixteen Candles” (1984) at 10; Vice has “Ghostbusters” (1984) ar 7 ad 9:30 p.m.
3) “Eden” finale, 8 p.m., BBC America, rerunning at midnight. This series has taken us around the world, to find places where nature is mostly untouched. (Two gorgeous examples are rerun today – Patagonia at 6:40 p.m. and Borneo at 9:16.) But for the finale, it’s in the U.S.: In Alaska, we see a 700 pound bear, capable of going 35 miles an hour, and a moose with a six-foot-wide, 40-pound set of antlers. It’s a great finish to a series that will add a making-of special next week.
4) “NCIS: New Orleans,” 9 p.m., CBS. After a deadly bomb explosion in a bar, a criminal turf war looms. Like many complications, it involves Sasha Broussard (Callie Thorne), known as both Pride’s nemesis and the mother of his son.
5) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Dan Levy – whose “Schitt’s Creek” swept the Emmys in its final season – hosts this rerun from February. Phoebe Bridgers is the music guest.
