“Friends” fans will finally get their reunion – a year later than first planned.
HBO Max says it will have the special on May 27. It will be unscripted, with all six stars (shown here), plus assorted guests, including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Cindy Crawford, Tom Selleck, Reese Witherspoon and James Corden; Ben Winston, who produces Corden’s late-night show, will produce and direct.
This had been planned as a centerpiece of the service. HBO Max (which also has “The Big Bang Theory” reruns) reportedly paid $425 million for streaming rights to “Friends” reruns … then paid the six stars $2 million apiece to do the reunion.
The COVID shutdown, however, intervened. Now the reunion airs on the first anniversary of the HBO Max launch.
Alongside that, cable’s TBS is rerunning all 235 “Friends” episodes in order, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. It started on Monday (May 10) and will continue through June 4.
