1) Golden Globe awards, 8 p.m. ET, NBC, with red-carpet at 7; on the West Coast, 5 p.m. PT (red-carpet at 4), rerunning at 8. Two terrific hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (shown here) are back … but not together. They’re in New York and Los Angeles, respectively. Viewers might not recognize many of the nominated movies; even the TV shows – all from cable or streaming – are sometimes obscure. The dramas: “The Crown,” “The Mandalorian,” “Ozark,” “Ratched” and “Lovecraft Country”; comedies: “Emily in Paris,” “The Great,” “Ted Lasso,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “The Flight Attendant.”
2) “It Was Always You” and “When Calls the Heart,” 7 and 9 p.m., Hallmark. We don’t have to remember new names or faces tonight. The movie (which debuted Saturday) and the series both star Erin Krakow as someone named Elizabeth, who’s torn between two handsome guys. In the movie, she meets her fiancee’s free-spirited brother. In the series, she’s a teacher in Canada’s frontier days.
3) “The Godfather” (1972), noon and 8:30 p.m., Paramount. One of the all-time great movies – trailing only “Citizen Kane” on the American Film Institute’s all-time list, airs twice. Its terrific sequel (1974) follows, at 4 p.m. and midnight. Another great film, “Saving Private Ryan” (1999), is 8 p.m. on A&E.
4) “The Equalizer,” 8 p.m., CBS. McCall (Queen Latifah) has two big problems – probing the apparent suicide of a community activist and dealing with the fact that her daughter is learning to drive.
5) “The Great North,” 8:30 p.m., Fox. Judy fears she’s inheriting her dad’s fear of romance. Her solution is to nudge him to a combined meat auction and singles mixer. He might find true love – or, at least, some good cuts of beef.
