The last pieces of the new TV season are finally in place – almost.
ABC has set January starts for the return of “The Rookie” (shown here) and “Mixed-ish” and the debut of a comedy, “Call Your Mother.” That will finally return it to two nights (Tuesday and Wednesday) with comedies.
Now there are only two shows that were originally planned for fall, but remain in limbo. Both are on CBS – the second season of “Evil” and the Queen Latifah reboot of “Equalizer.” One show (ABC’s “Stumptown”) was set for fall, then canceled. The ABC moves are:
– “The Rookie” returns to 10 p.m. Sundays, startiug Jan. 3. That puts it at the end of a game-show night, following “Supermarket Sweep” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” For now, the summer show “Card Sharks” has been filling in.
– “Call Your Mother” debuts at 9:30 p.m. Wednsday, Jan. 13. It’s an empty-nest comedy, created by Kari Lizer (“The New Adeventures of Old Christine”) and starring Kyra Sedgwick.
– “Mixed-ish” starts its second season at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. Tuesdays are currently inhabited by “The Bachelorette,” which was delayed from summer.
The moves also affect “Black-ish,” currently at 9:30 p.m.Wednedays. It will miss a couple weeks, when “Call Your Mother” dislodges it; then it will be 9 p.m. Tuesdays, alongside “Mixed-ish,” its prequel.
