Don’t say I never give you any good news.
(I mean, really, please don’t say that.)
Here’s something very good: CBS has just changed its schedule for Monday (May 20), to insert a rerun of Thursday’s “Big Bang Theory” finale, from 8-9 p.m. By my thinking, it may have been the best finale ever.
Sure, some finales — “Newhart,” “Mary Tyler Moore Show” — have been savored for their clever, closing twists. But “Big Bang” had it all, from brash sight gags to some quietly emotional moments that were true to the characters.
There were big story points for Penny and Leonard (shown here with Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki) and for Sheldon and Amy. There were changes to two familiar parts of the set — one hilarious, the other providing proof that something really can change after 12 years. There was even a quirky celebrity-guest bit.
But beyond all that, there were well-drawn characters, learning from their mistakes. In its final minutes, TV’s best comedy also provided some moments of moving drama.
