Cable-TV has become a permanent solution for TV’s summertime blues.
Now FX has set the summer starts for “Baskets,” “Legion” and then “Snowfall,” the deep drama produced by the late John Singleton. Three other shows had already been set, starting with “Archer” — which was an action-adventure last year (shown here), but now goes sci-fi.
That sort of summer push has forced the broadcast networks to have fewer reruns. “Archer” is on sister channel FXX, the others are on FX:
— May 29: “Archer,” for its 10h season. It’s now dubbed “Archer 1999.”
— June 2: “The Weekly” debuts. Each week, it focuses on a New York Times investigative piece.
— June 11: “Pose,” the second season of a stylish show that’s already won a Peabody Award.
— June 13: “Baskets,” the fourth season of Zack Galifianakis’ sort-of comedy.
— June 24: “Legion,” the alternate-reality show – FX calls it “mind-bending,” quite accurately – in its thrd and final season.
— July 10: “Snowfall,” for its third season. It’s produced by John Singleton (see separate quick-news-and-comments item), the gifted writer director who died April 29 at 51, after a massive stroke.
