1) “Crazy Rich Asians” (2018), 8 p.m., HBO. At times, this feels like an early-’60s throwback. It has stock characters, a predictable plot and OK humor … but dresses it up nicely. Director Jon Chu gave it a zesty pace and gorgeous look; by the end of its clever titles and opening, we know it’s fun. What makes it stand out is its Singapore setting and its Asian cast, including Awkwafina in support. There were Golden Globe nominations for the film (best comedy or musical) and its star, Constance Wu.
2) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Speaking of rising Asian stars, tonight’s music guest is BTS, a seven-guy group that sold five million albums last year in is native Korea alone. It’s the first Korean act with an album certified platinum in the U.S.; Emma Stone has her fourth turn as host.
3) “Ransom,” 8 p.m., CBS. After being bumped by basketball, this Canadian drama is back. A Russian ballerina has been kidnapped; now, CBS says, the team enters “the cut-throat world of ballet.”
4) Sports pile-up, ABC, NBC and cable. For the first time in a month, a Saturday isn’t dominated by college basketball; now the pros take over. The basketball playoffs start today on cable and (at 8:30 p.m. ET) ABC. The hockey playoffs started Wednesday on cable and add NBC today, with Carolina and Washington at 3 p.m. E and Toronto at Boston at 8. That collides with the college hockey championship, at 8 on ESPN2. Also NASCAR (7:30 p.m., Fox) and boxing (9:10, Showime).
5) “Singin’ In the Rain” (1952), 8 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies. Gene Kelly starred in this one and shared the direction and choreography with Stanley Donen. The result triumphed: The American Film Institute called it the fifth-best American movie ever and the best musical. Donen’s “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” (1954) — No. 21 on the musical list – precedes it at 6 p.m.
