NatGeo Wild

Her patients are big and hairy ... or small and creepy ... or others

Like many people, I've never wished I was living in the Yukon, dealling with bears and bison and such. But that life seems to work fine for Dr. Michelle Oakley and her daughters; they are bright and likable people whose show -- "Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet" -- returns Saturday (Oct. 6). Here's the story I sent to papers:

Dr. Michelle Oakley
never planned on this career, you know.

“I didn't know
there were any wildlife vets,” she said.

Storming into chaos, they save cats and dogs and such

Some TV people strain hard to get you to like them; some don't have to strain at all. The "Animal Storm Squad" folks are good-hearted souls who are instantly likable. Smart and fit, they use their brains and energy to try to rescue animals after a storm. Their show debuts Friday (March 11) on NatGeo Wild. Here's the story I sent to papers:

Cesar Millan keeps transforming dogs, people and himself

The Cesar Millan story keeps unfolding in intriguing ways. Now a new "Cesar 911" season starts Friday and reruns often; here's the story I sent to papers:

Cesar Millan's TV
shows are about resurrection and revival, about dogs and people
changing lives.

A semi-incredible, global life of piglets, hedgehogs and cable fame

Up close, Jan Pol is just what you expect -- a big, vibrant Dutchman who became a veterinarian on purpose and a cable-TV star by accident. Now NatGeo Wild has a special about Pol on Saturday (Jan. 10), along with an "Incredible Dr. Pol" marathon. Here's the story I sent to papers:

Cougars and leopards and phythons, oh my ... and we're talking about cities

Maybe it's just me, but I have mixed feelings about sharing my habitat. When it comes to deer and raccoon, I'm cheerful, even encouraging; when it comes to cougars and pythons, not so much. Now a fascinating cable special Sunday (Aug. 3) finds wildlife in cities everywhere. Here's the story I sent to papers:
